I myself am only marginally knowledgeable about using RIPs. But you'll probably want to keep the same operating system. This alone could make a dramatic improvement in output to what you are currently getting.Īlso, a modest upgrade of your computer may also help with the number crunching side of RIPing. If you are questioning the quality and consistency of the printer output, then you may want to find a local color geek to come in and re-linearize your printer and possible make some custom ICC profiles for the papers you use. So unless you intend to upgrade the printer, you may be better off keeping what you have. Even a new rip may not support your machine. You are often bound to what you have when things get this old! The RIP provided a pretty big leap forward as far as options for calibrating color, workflow controls, and Postscript processing. We aren't really picky about colors, but just needed something to print reliably and reasonably good color accuracy. We don't do fine art photography here, but print lots of text with photos and graphs for the posters.
